What was happening in the world
Prophesying during Josiah's reign (640–609 BC), as Assyria's grip loosened but before it fell, Zephaniah addresses a Jerusalem full of imported religion — star worship on rooftops, foreign fashion, corrupt officials. His warnings land just before Josiah's great reform and, a generation later, Babylon's invasion.
