What was happening in the world
Around 609–605 BC the world order was flipping: Assyria was collapsing, Egypt was maneuvering, and Babylon under Nebuchadnezzar was on the march, defeating Egypt at Carchemish in 605 BC. Habakkuk first protests Judah's own injustice at home, then struggles with the answer: God is raising up an even more violent empire to deal with it.
What this helps us see
“The righteous will live by faithfulness” is spoken while the economy and the fields collapse. Trust here means durable loyalty, not optimism about circumstances.
