What was happening in the world
The journey crosses real, contested ground — the Sinai wilderness, the Negev desert, and the kingdoms of Edom, Moab, and the Amorites, all of which keep showing up in Israel's later story. A generation raised in slavery had to learn to trust God in the in-between, with no land, no king, and no institutions of their own.
What this helps us see
The long wandering is a lesson in itself: unbelief kept one generation going in circles, but God kept his promise alive for their children.

Grace and holy living
