What was happening in the world
Every nation around Israel had priests, sacrifices, and purity rules — that was simply how the ancient world related to its gods. Leviticus takes that familiar language and rewrites it around one holy God who actually lives among his people, tying worship to honest business, care for foreigners, and love for your neighbor.
What this helps us see
“Holy” doesn't just mean private good behavior. The holiness code ties worship to honest scales, care for immigrants, integrity, and love of neighbor — all in the same breath.
