What was happening in the world
A locust plague — one of the ancient world's most feared disasters, able to strip a land to famine within days — had destroyed Judah's crops, its economy, and even the grain for the temple offerings. Joel reads the catastrophe as a call to return to God together and a warning of a greater “day of the Lord.”
