What was happening in the world
Addressed to Jewish Christians “scattered among the nations” — communities living as minorities across the Roman world, mostly poor laborers and farmers facing wealthy landowners who withheld wages and dragged them into court. James writes like an Amos for the scattered churches, testing whether claimed faith becomes embodied mercy.
