The churches of Galatia
What was happening in the world
The Galatian churches sat in Roman Asia Minor (modern Turkey), where Gentile converts were being told they needed circumcision and the Jewish law — basically, to become Jews — to fully belong to God's people. The question was explosive in the movement's first decades: do you enter the Messiah's family by ethnic conversion or by faith?
