What was happening in the world
Colossae was a small town in the Lycus valley of Asia Minor, where local religion mixed folk belief, Jewish tradition, and early mystical ideas about angels, visions, and harsh self-denial. The letter insists that all fullness is in Christ, not in secret spiritual techniques.

Rules that promise spiritual mastery can't actually change desire. Paul points instead to union with Christ and a community clothed in compassion and love.
