What was happening in the world
Same world of house churches and traveling missionaries: a local leader named Diotrephes was refusing to host the traveling workers, slandering the elder, and throwing out members who disagreed — an early case study in authoritarian church leadership. Gaius is commended for keeping his doors open anyway.
