What was happening in the world
The story travels the real infrastructure of the Roman world — its roads, shipping lanes, law courts, and cities, from Jerusalem to Antioch, Philippi, Athens, Corinth, Ephesus, and finally Rome itself. Scattered Jewish synagogues, Greek as a shared language, and Roman citizenship (which Paul uses to his advantage) made a cross-cultural mission possible for the first time in history.
What this helps us see
At Pentecost the Spirit doesn't erase languages — he makes the good news understandable across them. Unity means communion across difference, not forced sameness.
