Framed as Paul's final letter from a Roman dungeon — likely during Nero's crackdown after the great fire of Rome in AD 64, when Christians were blamed and executed. Loyalty to a condemned prisoner was shameful and dangerous, which is why the letter keeps returning to courage, desertion, and handing the faith to the next generation.
